Cosmetic Powder Technology

Grant's powders can improve the feel or texture of a formula or serve as a vehicle for active delivery.

The chart below is an overview of the products and also relates how aesthetic properties are connected to polymer chemistry.

Click here or anywhere on the chart for detail on any of these products.

  • Generally speaking, products on the left-hand side of the chart are based on polymethylsilsequioxane, which is a non-absorbing, dry, glossy powder with a discrete particle-size distribution for soft focus effects.  Many chemists use a bit of Gransil PSQ in their formulas with our elastomer gels to provide a "cream-to-powder finish".

  • Products on the right hand side are based on a powdered, readily dispersible form our polysilicone-11 elastomer for oil thickening, matte finishing and oil absorbing properties to give a wetter, more cushioned feel to the final formula.

  • Products in the middle of the chart use our patented interpenetrating polymer technology to make powders with hybridized properties.  For instance, EPSQ is so interesting and spongy, it makes a great textured mousse foundation or blush.  Because of it's unique chemistry, LSQ provides an "open" pathway towards dry finishes, compared to regular polymethylsilsequioxanes.  The Gransil Slip series uses the interpenetrating polymers in blended form to provide the best range of properties and value in formulating creams or powdered make-ups.

  • Non-silicone powders are also available
