Occlusive Silicone Polymer for Petrolatum/Lanolin Replacement

Modern cosmetics often contain high levels of silicone fluids to build consumer acceptance and perceived-value.  There is a high demand for silicones that will stabilize and/or thicken the oil phase, retain moisture (equivalent to that of a petrolatum or lanolin) and leave a lasting sensory benefit.  While our Gransil brand of polysilicone elastomers are world renowned for providing enhanced thickening and sensory attributes, they do so via a polymer swelling mechanism, as opposed to an associative thickening effect.  The new Gransil VX series differs dramatically from our elastomers, as they alternatively form flexible silicone domains and more rigid hydrocarbon domains that enable a specific structured property set for creating advanced products.

Pilots define “VX” as the best angle of ascent for

aircraft to efficiently reach optimal altitude.

The Gransil VX series was designed to enable you to efficiently reach optimal “altitudes” in formulating.

Gransil VX Molecular Architecture

Each version starts with a reactive polydimethysiloxane and we systematically incorporate just the right amount of hydrocarbon chain to get the desired degree of association.  This customizes polymer melting point and provides varying degrees of occlusivity (moisture retention) and formula viscosity.

Gransil VX series will improve cosmetic formulation leveling and rheology, while dramatically improving the hydration of dry, damaged skin with a non-tacky, highly aesthetic silicone feel. These performance features allow the Gransil VX series to successfully replace other occlusive agent such as lanolin and petrolatum. In particular, the Gransil VX products offer excellent shine and a durable, long lasting wear feature for color cosmetics, while promoting pigment dispersing and adhesion on skin.
