Granpowder PSQ-Diamond-10 is a combination of a premium silky silicone powder and a cosmetic-grade of micronized diamond powder. Technically, it provides soft focus, skin polishing effects, and a great skin feel. The technical effects are only a part of why we are so excited about this product. We believe claiming 1/4 carat or more of real diamond in your product will help entice the consumer into buying it by providing new marketing claims. We also sell Gold, Silver and Platinum containing cosmetic raw materials and can confirm there is a trend for providing jewelry grade metals and gemstones for cosmetics. The trend is called *Bling in a Jar" *NY Times, April 26, 2007 ("New Hope in a Bottle: Bling in a Jar").
We work directly with a diamond dealer to secure an extremely narrow particle size cut of this highly prized gem for advanced cosmetics. Research at Grant Industries has found a narrow particle size cut that yields a superior soft focus effect, with only a slight gray color. In comparison, industrial grade diamond powders having the same average particle size, but with a wider size distribution are dark gray. Our diamond is blended with our finest polymethylsilsequioxane powder to make this product more effective and affordable for cosmetic use. Of course, Granpowder Diamond is also available for those desiring 100% diamond powder for mineral containing cosmetics.
Diamonds have always been associated with strength and prosperity.
Formulating Granpowder PSQ-Diamond 10 for making claims based on carat weight and soft focus effects:
Carat weight: Diamonds are typically sold by weight in a unit called "carats". The conversion a formulator needs to know is 0.2 g pure diamond is 1 carat weight. Granpowder PSQ-Diamond 10 is 10% real diamond, so 2 grams of our product gives a full carat of diamond. In fact, a kilogram of Granpowder PSQ-Diamond 10 contains 500 carat weight of diamonds! A cosmetic product requires just 1.8% Granpowder PSQ-Diamond 10 in the formula to ensure a one ounce jar contains 1/4 carat diamond.
Soft Focus Effect: Micronized diamonds are so small they are nearly invisible on the skin when dispersed. But the optical physics they employ are exactly the same as a spectacular cut large-carat rock! Light travels through the vacuum of space at 186,282 miles per second to give a refractive index of 1.00, but when that same light hits a diamond, the speed is cut drastically to 77,056 miles per second, giving the diamond a refractive index of 2.4175. In other words, a diamond slows down light by 2.4 times and in doing so, bends light drastically. This means virtually all light entering the top face of the diamond is reflected internally and the appearance is softened since the light emerges in random directions. But all you really need to know is our particle size distribution is tailored for the highest effect at the lowest use level.
This product is really expensive, right? Absolutely not. We sell this product for less than $0.50 / carat. A one ounce fill with 1/4 carat diamond in it only adds about 14 cents per unit. We think that's a very good value for those passionate about marketing this class of premium product.
